Monica Sandoval

b. Torrance, CA

Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA

Through video performance, installation, and object making Monica Sandoval examines themes of identity, self-preservation, and ultimately futility.

Sandoval's work is defiant, amplifing the body as means to protest any general notions attached to it. As a starting point,Sandoval is currently investigating how she can distance herself from her own body (objectifying it in the process). All in order to link body image with the social construct surrounding Romance; which is not a new idea, media elevates outwardly “beautiful” people falling in love all the time.  The question then becomes, where do I fit in? Who am I if I don’t have a fairy godmother making me a dress to fit my body type; who am I if I don’t have prince charming knocking at my door; who am I?
